Bringing knowledge, experiences, and passion to our educational program

“The size of your network doesn’t matter – it is the quality of your network that counts.” Unknown Author

Pat Lubinski, PhD

Department of Anthropology,

Between 2005 and 2010, Professor Pat Lubinski led the Wenas Creek Mammoth Field School, which included students, as well as CWU and University of Washington paleontology and geology faculty, to excavate the site by hand each summer. During the off season, research was conducted in the lab and science papers published on their findings. Professor Lubinski has continued to be very supportive of the WMF's Education Program.  He participates in our annual Day-at-the-Dig, bringing his students to set up an information booth on skeletons, and giving presentations on the dig site.

Nick Zentner

Department of Geology, CWU

Professor Zentner has been with CWU Geology since 1992. He teaches a popular "GEOL 101 - Geology of Washington" course to CWU students every Fall Quarter and Winter Quarter - and his course is open to townspeople for free! He also teaches Pacific Northwest Geology in spring. In 2015, Nick received the prestigious James Shea Award, a national award recognizing exceptional delivery of Earth Science content to the general public. Professor Zentner has always been supportive of the WMF's Education Program by sharing educational materials on local geology and giving a presentation at our annual Day-at-the-Dig.

Jack Powell

Retired Geology Professor, CWU

Jack Powell has a gift for providing scientific information so that it is accessible to people of all ages and educational backgrounds. He began his career with the Atomic Energy Commission in 1963, subsequently spent 13 years at CWU and Shell Oil, and recently retired from the Department of Natural Resources after serving 21 years as the State Geologist. Jack has been very supportive of the WMF's Educational Program.  He has given us fossils and rocks to use in our program, curriculum materials, and in-person on-site lessons on the geology of Wenas Mammoth Mountain.
